This story features an unusual reunion between a London perfume shop assistant entrusted with attending a professional gathering, who by chance encounters a neighbouring printer’s shop employee upon whom she had a crush, who disappeared mysteriously years ago and has changed greatly in the meanwhile. NB: The author has apparently incorporated her research about the period perfume industry into the story, if you enjoy extra historical detail.

Gold for the Gay Masters by the late Denise Robins, a prolific and highly popular British romantic novelist back in the day, is the 1st novel in her Fauna Trilogy of vintage f/m romantic historical drama novels set in Georgian England, free for a limited time courtesy of publisher Hodder & Stoughton.
This was originally published in 1954 using the Harriet Gray pseudonym. The series is an old school passionate dramatic generational saga involving high society scandal, akin to the works of later authors Jackie Collins and Barbara Taylor Bradford where the love story does not necessarily play out according to romance genre conventions and/or end happily ever after. This volume is centred around a heroine who rises from unfortunate beginnings as a slave and plaything to the wealthy, who escapes her seeming rescuer and becomes a dazzling socialite in Regency London, with her heart set on taking revenge upon the only man she has ever loved.
