The story stars a man on a years-long mission of family vengeance against the scoundrel who seduced and was responsible for the death of his sister, only to find it interrupted by his own rescue of a woman and town menaced by an outlaw gang, whom he finds himself on a commission to get rid of, making himself a target for the gang and framed for murder besides, but fortunately maybe finding a clue towards his original quest.

The story is centred around uncovering multitudinous layers of deceit, involving an apparently upstanding citizen calling in a federal marshal to turn in a neighbour supposedly guilty of committing murder and armed robbery, only to find his intended catspaw suspicious of the attempted frame, leading him to attempt to frame the marshal as well.

The story makes use of the historical setting of proto-Texas back when it was still the Mexican territory of Tejas, starring a man accompanying a group of illegal American settlers, who gets caught up in the fight for territorial control.
