Troubleshooter by Alan David, a pseudonym for prolific multi-genre British author Donald S. Rowland, is the 1st novel in his Chet Manning trilogy of western historical action adventure novels, free again for a limited time courtesy of publisher Endeavour Press’ Pioneering imprint.

This was originally published in 1979 by Magread under the title Iron Rails using the pseudonym Bart Shane. The trilogy stars a gunslinging troubleshooter for the South and West railroad company.

This installment sets up the rivalry between S&W and a competitor with ambitions of being the first to lay tracks to a certain area by whatever means necessary, and Manning’s attempts to defend his own company from an opposite number determined to put them out of business, starting by targeting S&W’s chief troubleshooter.

[Free eBook] Space Venturer by Alan David [Science Fiction Thriller]

Space Venturer by Alan David, a pseudonym for British author Donald S. Rowland, is his vintage science fiction thriller with political and space adventure elements, free for a limited time courtesy of publisher Endeavour Press’ Venture imprint.

This was originally published in 1976 by Robert Hale as part of their Hale SF line, credited as by Donald S. Rowland. This is apparently a sequel to the author’s earlier novel Despot in Space (also previously offered free) which saw a scientist inventing a groundbreaking travel device in the hopes of using it to overthrow an Earth dictator, and winding up visiting an alien planet in the course of testing it.

This story sees him return home to Earth, but then return to the alien planet again, as mysterious deaths among the aliens compel him to solve an associated problem, only to find further dangers along the way while also dealing with the lingering strange effects caused by using the device upon his journeys.
