Bloodthirst by New Zealand author Marc Alexander is his standalone historical supernatural horror thriller, free for a limited time courtesy of publisher Endeavour Press’ Venture imprint.

This was originally published in 1979 by Hamlyn using the Mark Ronson pseudonym, and is also known under the title Blood-Thirst from a later reprint edition. The story is set during one historical time period and draws upon the personage-turned-legend of another, as WWII German soldiers retreating in Hungary take refuge in a crypt, where they awaken the malevolent and bloodthirsty 17th century spirit of notorious “Blood Countess” Elizabeth Báthory, unleashing an ancient (well, late medieval to early Renaissance-ish) horror upon an unsuspecting “modern” world.
