The story is set circa the coronation of King Edward VII at the beginning of the 20th century as the late Victorian era was ending, providing a globe-trotting adventure through various parts of the British Empire as a war hero soldier and former policeman returns from South Africa after his sister’s death, which begins to look suspicious when sorting out her affairs which may have been linked to the imperialist legacy of a prominent personage, putting him on the trail of an international intrigue apparently reaching from the highest classes to the depths of the criminal underworld.
