[Free eBook] The Pirate and I by Katharine Ashe [Regency Historical Romance]

The Pirate and I by Katharine Ashe is a novella in her Devil’s Duke series of f/m Regency historical romance, free for a limited time courtesy of publisher HarperCollins’ Avon Impulse imprint.

The main series mostly takes place in England during the Regency era, but this installment follows some side characters to Scotland.

This story features an unusual reunion between a London perfume shop assistant entrusted with attending a professional gathering, who by chance encounters a neighbouring printer’s shop employee upon whom she had a crush, who disappeared mysteriously years ago and has changed greatly in the meanwhile. NB: The author has apparently incorporated her research about the period perfume industry into the story, if you enjoy extra historical detail.

Offered in the US only, available at multiple retailers. This is being offered as a HarperCollins BookPerk Free Fridays special, so it’s probably good through the weekend, at least.

Description
For seventeen-year-old Tansy Marsh, life centres upon her father’s inn, The White Boar, in Leicester.

Richard III sits upon the throne of England, and all seems well.

But the threat of the would-be usurper, Henry Tudor, looms like a gathering storm. And soon the eye of that storm is uncomfortably close to Tansy, disrupting her reassuringly ordinary life.

Once King Richard is defeated, that life becomes even less ordinary.

For Tansy has met Dickon Broome, the man who will change her existence forever.

And while life goes on under the Tudor, Dickon has particular reason to bear a grudge.

Meanwhile in Leicester, Tansy’s beloved father dies, and she is left at the mercy of her self-absorbed, self-interested stepmother.

Until her stepmother also dies, in a most horrible way, and Tansy finds herself terrifyingly close to the centre of that drama.

It soon becomes clear that there is nothing more for Tansy in her childhood home. She travels to London, to Dickon, and to a future that will be marked by some of the most noted events in England’s history.

For Dickon, Broome is not quite all that he seems, and the quality that sets him apart forces him to take some difficult decisions; decisions that affect Tansy as much as himself.

While the couple seems happy, Dickon’s secret has the power to destroy them. Will he allow that to happen, or will he come to terms with some of the nation’s most famous historic events, and live out a quiet and happy life with his beloved Tansy?

Only one man can decide.

[Free eBook] Gold for the Gay Masters by Denise Robins [Historical Drama Novel with Romance]

Gold for the Gay Masters by the late Denise Robins, a prolific and highly popular British romantic novelist back in the day, is the 1st novel in her Fauna Trilogy of vintage f/m romantic historical drama novels set in Georgian England, free for a limited time courtesy of publisher Hodder & Stoughton.

This was originally published in 1954 using the Harriet Gray pseudonym. The series is an old school passionate dramatic generational saga involving high society scandal, akin to the works of later authors Jackie Collins and Barbara Taylor Bradford where the love story does not necessarily play out according to romance genre conventions and/or end happily ever after. This volume is centred around a heroine who rises from unfortunate beginnings as a slave and plaything to the wealthy, who escapes her seeming rescuer and becomes a dazzling socialite in Regency London, with her heart set on taking revenge upon the only man she has ever loved.

Offered in selected regions worldwide (excluding North America), available at multiple retailers.
