[Free eBook] Mapping Winter by Marta Randall [Epic Fantasy with Steampunk]

Mapping Winter by Marta Randall, a Nebula Award finalist, is the 1st novel in the Riders Guild series of epic fantasy with steampunk elements, free for a limited time courtesy of publisher Endeavour Press’ Venture imprint.

This was originally published in 1983 by Pocket Books’ Timescape imprint under the title The Sword of Winter, was originally a standalone novel, and has now been extensively rewritten by the author in this new edition to better fit her original vision and its new follow-up sequel, The River South. The series is a hybrid of classic epic fantasy world with steampunk elements, set in a land dominated by a dying overlord as a developing power struggle threatens to change everything in his wake.

This story stars a messenger in a spy network whose services are being contended over by competing dynastic heirs, the choice of whom will become the ruling successor may usher in a bright future with new advances in technology or stifle them back into a darker age.
