Saladin’s Spy by John Cleve, a pseudonym for the late American author Andrew J. Offutt, a prolific sf/fantasy author who also moonlighted by writing erotica, is the 5th novel in the Crusader series of medieval historical f/m erotic adventure romps, free for a limited time courtesy of publisher Endeavour Press.
This was originally published in 1986 by Black Cat. The series is set during the late 12th century’s Third Crusade under the leadership of Richard the Lionheart, starring a young man who rises from humble peasant origins to becoming a warrior, with plenty of exciting battles and erotic encounters along the way. At the time of writing (circa the early 1970s-80s), the sex scenes were racier than what was generally available, though would probably be considered tame today.
This installment is the final novel wrapping up the hero’s adventures, as brutal enemies have taken over a crucial castle and hold captive a French nurse destined to become their slave, unless one man can free her from their clutches.
