The Curse of Loch Ness by British author Peter Tremayne, perhaps best known as the author of the popular Sister Fidelma historical mystery series, is his standalone contemporary gothic-ish horror suspense thriller, free for a limited time courtesy of publisher Endeavour Press’ Venture imprint.
This was originally published in 1979 by Sphere.
The story stars a London woman who unexpectedly inherits a Scottish castle from a distant relative, which comes with the obligatory ominous atmosphere and unhelpful locals and mysterious secret which she must uncover. NB: According to one of the customer reviews, this is high on stranger uncovering regional mystery/suspense elements and low on actual creature feature horror, so YMMV.
Offered worldwide, available at Amazon.

The Visitor by Evey Brett is her standalone gothic dark fantasy suspense short with possible m/m romantic elements, free again for a limited time courtesy of LGBT specialty publisher Lethe Press.
The story stars a man unable to remember how he came to be wandering injured and alone, who gets taken in by the obligatory mysterious local manor with lurking secrets as he slowly unravels whatever is going on. NB: despite the references to “tender, erotic comfort” and “man he’s forbidden to love” in the blurb, this story is actually only filed under the Dark Fantasy and Gay Fiction categories at Amazon and none of the actual romantic and/or erotic romance ones, so YMMV if you were hoping for a steamy supernatural love story with an HEA.
Offered DRM-free worldwide, available at Amazon.
